ROOFING SERVICES
GRETNA

Gretna is the one town in our service area that sits in Scotland and it is unlike anywhere else we work. The town was built in the First World War to house workers at the munitions factory  and its housing reflects that origin. We cover it from Carlisle, a few miles to the south, and we work to Scottish rules when we are there.

A planned town with century-old housing
Gretna was constructed to provide housing and a community for workers at HM Factory Gretna, one of the largest munitions works of the First World War. The houses were built in such a way that they could later be converted into private homes and many of them have been. That means a large part of Gretna's housing stock is now over a hundred years old and reaching the stage where roofs, flashings and rainwater goods need attention on a planned basis rather than in response to leaks. Gretna Green and commercial property
Gretna Green's wedding industry means hotels, venues and hospitality buildings sit alongside the housing. These are larger, more complex roofs — long runs, multiple levels, flat roof sections, and an expectation that any work is done with minimal disruption to a working business. Commercial roof maintenance is a different exercise to domestic repair, and we plan it accordingly. Different rules in Scotland

GRETNA
Roofing in Gretna is governed by Scottish planning law, not the English system that applies everywhere else in our service area. Listed building consent in Scotland is administered through Historic Environment Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway Council. If your property is listed, or sits in a conservation area, the consent route and the people you deal with are different — and it is worth knowing that before work is ordered rather than after.
